Kung Hei Fat Choi! 2014 year of the horse!
As the Chinese new year of the horse approached, as an artist I felt rather uninspired. This farmyard creature I was introduced to on Old MacDonald’s farm, back when I was in Kindergarten in Australia, has never really appealed to me. Never really was interested in horse riding as a child, my parents’ influence as they are keen beach goers.
Looking around Hong Kong over Chinese New Year this image of a horse in the shape of the Cantonese character, ‘ma’ meaning horse. The image grabbed my attention; it was strong, bold and depicted the horse wonderfully in my eyes. Suddenly, a clear image formed in my mind of how I wanted to put this on canvas with my famous red, black and gold pop! Or, Aranaart touch!
Painting this also made me remember how influential the horse has been across all cultures and how this beautiful creature has worked tirelessly with man. Now days most people are likely to see a horse at the races… but in the beginning they were very important in the building of modern society. Thank you horsepower and Kung Hei fat Choi for the year of the wooden horse!
